Closely linked with tourism is the work of the South Carolina Film Commission, which provides a tremendous benefit to many communities across this state, including York County. Film production has provided a significant infusion of new dollars into our local economy for more than a decade, thanks to the assistance of the state film office.
Major productions, such as “The Patriot,” “Asylum,” “Walker Payne,” “Carrie II”, “Days of Thunder” and “Patriotville” have provided meaningful employment for our residents. The projects have also provided substantial revenue for our local businesses, especially lodging, dining, catering and specialty retail businesses.
