10 events, projects to look forward to in York County in 2019

2018 was filled with fun, but it’s time to get the party started in 2019! This new year is bringing lots of excitement to York County for our visitors!

Rock Hill Indoor Center:

The biggest project in Rock Hill is set to finally open this year! The Rock Hill Sports & Event Center is set to debut this summer. It’s a mixed-use site that will connect Winthrop University to Old Town Rock Hill with hotels, restaurants, office space, apartments, and more! The facility will be home to dozens of courts and a walking track!

Copperhead Strike:

A brand new rollercoaster, hotel, and restaurant concept will launch at Carowinds in 2019. The 4oo-acre theme park is creating a new experience for the theme park called the Blue Ridge Junction. The area will feature the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountain Range in the Carolinas.

The rollercoaster, Copperhead Strike, will be the center of the Junction. The Carolina’s first double launch coaster, will take you from 0 to 42 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Giving thrill seekers the new bite they’ve been looking for. The ride is on over a half mile of steel, taking you upside down and through loops and turns

New Restaurants:

With January came restaurant openings and restaurant announcements! The Improper Pig on Main Street Fort Mill opened their doors January 1, while Tattooed Brews on Main Street Rock Hill and Fast Frog Bakery is also set to open in January in Lake Wylie! The Bottle Cap Group also announced Papa Doc’s Shore Club for the former T-Bones location.

Battle at the Rock 2019:

Our inagural Battle At The Rock Basketball Showcase at the end of 2018 was a hit, now we can’t wait to bring this success back to be bigger and better! We’re bringing back the hottest teams in High School Basketball Battle to Rock Hill and extending this showcase to three days. Make sure to mark out December 12-14 for Battle At The Rock.

Dennis Miller at the Coliseum:

This famed SNL comedian and political and sports commentator is making his way to Rock Hill February 20th. Don’t miss your chance, buy your tickets for this event now!

NarroWay Productions Expansion:

Narroway Productions, a Christian Dinner Theater in Fort Mill has big news for 2019! They’ll be expanding their property on each side. It will include “The Shoppes at Narroway” and “Camp Narroway”. We’ll be updating this exciting news for Narroway all year long!

Fort Mill Aquatic Center: 

A new multi-million dollar aquatic center in Fort Mill is set to open in the Fall of 2019. The project is a partnership between the Fort Mill School District, the Town of Fort Mill, Leroy Springs & Company and the YMCA.  It will include a new 50-meter competition pool, gym facilities will be expanded and tennis courts will be redone at the complex.

Humanities Festival:

For the first time ever, the South Carolina Humanities Festival will be held across York County.  Each festival celebrates the local history and culture of the host community, engaging the citizens in lectures, discussions, films, and exhibits and facilitating partnerships between cultural organizations and community groups.  Mark your calendars for the Humanities Festival for March 28th through the 30th.

Restaurant Week 2019:

We’ve made date night easy this January. Try a new restaurant, new town, new cuisine with Restaurant Week in York County from January 10-20th. We’ve partnered with the South Carolina Lodging & Restaurant Association to get you in for specials at several of our restaurants across the county. No special reservations, no sign ups, no gimmicks! YoCo Brew Trail Expansion:

In just 3 months we had more than 1,000 people download the Visit York County app and join the #YoCoBrewTrail and we’ve got big plans for the Trail in 2019. We’re planning exclusive events for YoCo Heroes and fun additives on the trail. Keep your eyes peeled for the news!
